In order to have the best possible visual, all our productions are carried out with only one type of camera. We have chosen SONY's XD-CAM series, model PWM-160/180. This system is easy to use in a harsh winter environment, but can be easily be adopted in any other conditions. It has made its proof in large production facilities such as the BBC. Lenses are integrated in the camera and have strong (25x) optical zoom, which is a key for longer shots as is required by outdoor sports.
There are plenty of extras used with the cameras, from tripods, remote controls, external monitors, microphones...
CONNECTION TO THE PRODUCTION
Once we gather the images on each camera position we need to send them to the Production. For that purpose we use multi-optic-fibre cables, which we typically set on the venue at least one day before the competition. Each cable is able to connect up to 6 units, with adequate up and down links. This means we can not only gather images from each camera in the Production, but we can also send the images back to the remote location. This comes in quite handy if you wish to have a TV on the start, by the coaches or jury members and similar cases.
Tele Ho currently owns two production units:
Mobile Production Unit 4k
OB - Van Production Unit 4k
The core equipment in both units is the same, and employs optic fibre converters, multiple recorders, Switchers, Control Units, Graphics, Streaming computers, UPS, and lots of smaller parts and pieces. The big difference is in the number of sources we can connect: MPU 4k – up to 10, OB-VAN up to 20 sources. As the name suggests, OB-Van is vehicle based, while MPU is built into flight cases. Our aim is to extend our capacity to at least 4 OB-Van units.
DELIVERY OF PRODUCTION
We produce to reach the broadest audience possible. We provide Internet Stream to various platforms, such as Live Stream, Facebook LIVE, YouTube LIVE, Olympic Channel, SkiTV and other commercial platforms. Internet is the new era TV, and platforms often serve as broadcasters and vice versa. All internet platforms require good speed connections to the internet. Our coverage can also be produced to proper broadcast standards, and our content has been positively used in the past by EBU, ARD, ZDF, SFR, RTV-SLO, NRK and other TV broadcasts, live-delay, TV Shows or simple TV News.
Internet stream The easiest and most economical way is, for the organizer to provide a dedicated fixed internet line. The speed required for each internet stream is 10Mbps UPLOAD, while download is usually not a critical point. This line is also used to send post broadcast materials (such as social media clips, FTP delivery and similar)
Satellite stream Tele Ho owns equipment required for streaming over the Satellite IP internet connection. To use it, booking is required, in slots of 15 minutes. This connection is good enough for a single stream connection, so often a cloud streaming server is used in conjunction, in order to transcode and broadcast to multiple platforms. File transfer For Social media Clips, News packages or any other post-production process we use various file transfer methods. Commonly used and known is FTP, where we deliver files either to our own or customer’s server. For faster transfer to a specific customer a MyAirBridge service is often used. Direct uploads can be done in addition to described methods. In order to be able to work in this environment the speedy internet connection is required on the production side and if possible also at the lodging of the production team.
The Tele Ho team is dimensionned to cover the necessary work load guaranteeing the content quality. Generally the team consist of a number of camera operators + the team in the Production; this usually consist of a Director, a Slow Operator/Editor and a Chief of production/Technician. When required, we extend this crew with mission specific members such as: Graphics, Audio or Timing technician, Offline editor... In this document you will find description of various services and required crew-members. First communication language is English, while some members do speak also other languages.
